Duncan House Restoration
We are nearing completion of Phase 1 of the Duncan House Restoration Project – keeping water from getting into the Duncan House. In 2011 we had roofs repaired and chimney flashings replaced. In 2015 we completed critical preservation carpentry repairs and masonry repairs to the foundation. This year we will be looking at the drainage issues around the foundation of the Duncan House and of the driveway and parking lot.

In Phase 2 we will begin looking at the interior spaces with a plan for full restoration. The process begins this year with a feasibility study to look at the options for use of the Duncan House. We are hoping to restore the upstairs and downstairs hallways to their original 1814 glory while, also creating modern changing exhibit space.

Please stay tuned here for more information about this project. And take a look at the amazing difference in the exterior from last year’s repairs and painting.

The side porch of the Duncan House had many issues that needed to be addressed. Today one would never know how bad it was before being restored.
The front porch of the Duncan House. After much preservation TLC it looks like new now.
A window sill in desperate need of repairs. Preservation carpentry and a fresh coat of paint make a world of difference.
