The Buttonwoods Museum - Haverhill Historical Society
summer

Past Finders Summer Program, now in its 20th season, is a summer enrichment program for children in grades 1-7. Past Finders Staff encourage children to appreciate history through hands-on activities, creative arts projects, games, and exploration of the museum’s collection. The return of so many participants attests to the high quality and popularity of Past Finders.

SCHEDULE AND ACTIVITIES

Past Finders is based at the Buttonwoods Museum. Although each session is different, field trips, art projects, games, and cooking are an integral part of the weekly activities.

Past Finders meets Tuesday through Friday during each session week. Morning drop-off is at 9:00 am and afternoon pick-up is at 4:00 pm. On Friday
afternoons at 3:00 pm, parents, family and friends are invited to an open house where children present their projects from the week.

GRADE LEVELS

Your child's grade level is determined by the grade he/she will be in as of September 2010.

Come Sail Away

Session 1

Come Sail Away

July 13-16, 2010

For centuries, the Merrimack River has connected Haverhill
to ports around the world. Haverhill-built vessels hunted whales,
sailed the Pacific and transported exotic trade items from England,
China and the West Indies. In this perennial favorite, campers
will explore the Merrimack River as a resource and link to the
world. Activities include fishing, exploring the Buttonwoods Trail,
sailor crafts, cooking, and a nautical field trip.

Cost: $160

Young Americans

SESSION 2

Young Americans

August 10-13, 2010

European settlers arrived in the Haverhill area in the 17th century, but Native Americans have lived in Pentucket for thousands of years. In this session, campers will learn firsthand how both Native Americans and early settlers in this area lived. Activities include cooking, working in the garden, telling stories, playing games, creating homemade crafts, and a farm field trip.

Cost: $160
